Simple Gifts for child abuse prevention

The New York State Child Welfare Summit/Promise Neighborhood Conference hosted a special luncheon presentation by Dr. Dennis Embry, the founder of Simple Gifts, who spoke about recent findings showing the prevention of child abuse in whole counties using low-cost simple strategies that more than 20% of families in each county used to help with common, everyday issues of parenting children ages 0-9.  Approximately 1,000 practitioners (people who see parents of children in everyday settings such as schools, churches, clinics, doctor's offices) learned how to share "light touch" proven parenting supports from the Triple P parenting supports system.  The infusion of these light touch strategies reduced substantiated child maltreatment, out-of-home placement, and child abuse medical injuries at hospital.
